She was always quick to volunteer to help out with our fundraisers and was a tremendous supporter of many of our community events through the years. We, the Chamber, are heartbroken for her family for their loss, and wish to offer our sincerest condolences. Her sister-in-law Maura Tully-Lebron writes: "On June 21st Bernadette Mallon my sister-in-law fought her final battle with Ovarian Cancer with her family by her side. She fought bravely for 6 years right till the end. She is survived by her five kids Robert, Caili Rose, Liam, Sean, Aedan and husband Christopher Mallon." "Bernie was one of the most loving, courageous women I know. Through this battle she exemplified how life should be lived. Living and loving each moment to the fullest. Even while having a terminal disease she never complained or looked for sympathy. She stayed independent and looked for little help in her struggles; always keep others in mind looking to remove any burdens of worry or sorrow for her. She said it is what it is and moved on with life. She made it to every party, family function, took vacations, fought and loved hard with her sisters, kids, parents and husband right till the end. Bernie taught all of us how the moments of life with family and friends, the good and bad, how precious this life is. Those moments of life are what makes life worth living. Bernie is an inspiration to us all. Please join us in celebrating her life." "Visitation will be held on at the Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY, Wednesday, June 24, 6pm – 8pm and Thursday, June 25, 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm." "Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 26 11 am Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, 5 Tobin Way, Tuxedo Park, NY." "In Lieu of flowers, please donate to assist the family with medical expenses." "We love you Bernie... RIP." Members and Potential Members: The Membership enrollment deadline for 2014 is April 1st. You must pay your 2014 Membership dues to be in good standing for the year. Fitchick Fitness Featured in Natural Awakenings MagazineOne of our newest members, and host of our February meeting, Randi Colton of Fitchick Fitness, was recently featured in Natural Awakenings Magazine. The publication focuses on local health issues. We are very excited to welcome Randi to the Chamber. If you'd like to read more, please take a look at the article here. “All people have the ability to discover the root cause of problems they face,” she says. “They just need some guidance and gentle coaching to put those forces to work.” For Colton, those forces lead her clients to develop an instinctual sense of accountability when it comes to their lifestyle choices. And please come and meet Randi and the rest of the Chamber on February 20th during our next meeting. -Bill In Memoriam: Linda Leghorn![]() With deep regrets we are saddened about the news that Linda Leghorn, a great friend to Tuxedo, our community, and many residents, passed on January 26th, 2014. Linda was an integral part of the soul of Tuxedo, and was a dear friend to many of us in the business community. Her story is one of courage and inspiration, as she valiantly fought Stage III lung cancer from September, 2009, until today. Linda was the driving force behind Rand Realty, Guardian Realtors and Sam's Lawn Service, both of which are extremely important members of our Chamber. In my memory are the heroic efforts of Sam, who, on Linda's diagnosis, brought in truckload after truckload of sand to their backyard. The Leghorns hosted two Chamber meetings in 2011 and 2012 - more accurately, "Luau's" - which were the highlights of our year. "I couldn't make it to the beach, so he brought the beach to me," Linda told the Photo News in 2012. Words cannot describe our regret as we say goodbye to a wonderful human being & a great member of our small but vibrant community. Our deepest condolences go to her faithful husband, Sam, her children, Robert and Richard, her grandson, Jackson Blake, her stepfather, Jack Connelly, and everyone in Linda's life who she touched. With great respect, William Sweet President Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce We are very excited to announce that one of our members - Adria Gross of Medwise - was recognized for her influence, leadership, and dedication to the community by WCBS News Radio 880 at their Annual Awards Event on December 11th.

This award reflects great credit upon her not only as a very successful businesswoman, but also her genuine efforts to help those around her and her community. You can listen to Adria's on-air interview and read more about the award here, or on Adria's website at medwiseinsuranceadvocacy.com.
We wish to congratulate Adria for her fantastic achievements and are thrilled to have her as a member of our Chamber. William Sweet

845.398.4284 Each year, Kevan Ottochian and other St. Thomas Aquinas College alumni gather to celebrate the life of Justin Garcia. Corporal Garcia is a true American hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in November of 2006 while serving in the United States Army near Baghdad. The bowling event is held this year on Saturday, April 21st, at 2:00 PM at Hi-Tor Lanes in West Haverstraw. To find out how to donate or participate, please click this link. Justin Rivero Garcia did not have an easy life growing up in New York City. At the age of 12, he lost his parents. His grandfather raised him in the Elmhurst section – one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in New York City. ![]() Moved by the Sept. 11 attacks, Garcia joined the military after graduation. On 1 July 2005, Justin married Michelle Narcisco in the Church of St. Paul in Congers, NY. Less than a year later, he deployed to Iraq with the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. The unit embarked for a yearlong deployment. So, Justin and Michelle were destined to spend their first anniversary apart. While in Iraq, Justin Garcia always found a way to phone or write to remain in touch. He was ecstatic on Father’s Day when he learned his wife, Michelle, was expecting their first child. Remembering his own upbringing, Justin intended to ensure that his child would grow up with his father to guide him. ![]() Army Specialist Justin Rivero Garcia was riding in a Humvee during combat operations in Baghdad on Tuesday, 4 November 2006. Insurgents detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) alongside his vehicle. Garcia and an Army officer both perished in the explosion. Justin would not live to return home to guide his unborn son. “I actually last spoke with him on Monday,” Michelle Garcia said. “He was excited about coming home in February (on leave) and couldn’t wait to see me and his family and meet his son.” “He had a rough life” and was determined that his own children would have a different life, she said. Michelle Garcia said her husband “was so proud of what he was doing. The people from Fort Lewis should know that he loved everybody he worked with and talked about them all the time.” Source: Fallen Heroes Project Special Public Work Session GWL Board of Education
Wednesday, August 15th Greenwood Lake Elementary School 80 Waterstone Rd Greenwood Lake NY 10925 The Greenwood Lake Board of Education will meet during a public forum ("special public work session") to continue their discussion concerning the fate of Greenwood Lake high school children as they continue to weigh their options. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 15th, at 80 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake. Any decisions made could go into effect as early as September of 2013 for the 2013-2014 school year.
The Greenwood Lake student body currently provides approximately 80% of the student population of George F. Baker High School, which happens to be in Tuxedo. Greenwood Lake students have proudly attended George F. Baker High School since 1981. Both the valedictorian and salutatorian of George F. Baker's Class of 2012 are from Greenwood Lake. The Greenwood Lake Board of Education has been debating where to send their kids for a new five-year contract that begins in the 2013-2014 school year. The key issue is tuition rates, as both competing school districts (Warwick, Chester) offer a lower tuition than Tuxedo can. The Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce fully supports George F. Baker as the only choice for Greenwood Lake students, as it has spent the last 31 years catering to their specific needs. We fully respect the GWL Board's mission in reviewing all of their options, but strongly believe that putting a price on their children's education by selecting a cheaper and less effective option would be a catastrophic mistake. To read more, please continue onto our Greenwood Lake page.
