We are pleased to be continuing our Saturday Enrichment Courses for TPS families and the extended community. The next session runs from February 23 to March 26 and we have a variety of fun, instructive courses on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon for children and adults. 

The cost is $30 per class, $50 for two classes per day and $60 for three classes per day, with classes taught by TPS faculty and local professionals. For children and adults, courses include Chinese, Spanish, App Creation, Guitar and Yoga; for children there is also a "PreK Arts and Play" class.

Non-TPS students pay in full by check prior to the start of classes. Please note that classes require a minimum of six participants each Saturday to be held; space is limited in some courses and enrollment is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.

DESCRIPTIONS

                 FOR ADULTS:

Mandarin Chinese Course for Adults 
The Mandarin Chinese course will be held on Saturdays with Ms. Ding from 11:00 am to 12:00noon. The aim is to introduce students to the Chinese language and to various aspects of Chinese life and culture. Students will learn Chinese Phonics-Pinyin, basic vocabulary and sentence structures on specific topics, and practice listening, speaking, reading and writing.
 
Yoga for Adults 
TPS is proud to offer an adult yoga class with instructor Jason Zagaro. Yoga is a form of exercise that uses slow movements and stretching. It is good for increasing flexibility and balance. It is also good for relieving stress and relaxing. Yoga has been used as a meditation technique for thousands of years. As you exercise, you meditate on what your body is feeling and try to be "one with the universe. Come join us at 10:00 in the Activities Room to stretch your stress away!
 
Introduction to Guitar
Students will meet in the Music Room for a one hour introductory lesson on music theory, chord progression, picking styles, strum patterns, guitar tuning and chord shapes. Students may bring their own guitar or guitars will be provided. The lesson is designed for students at the beginner level.
 
There's an App For That
This class is an introduction to app development. Learn the fundamentals of iPad app development using Xcode to create a sample app. Topics covered include machine requirements, development tools, review of a sample app and hands on development of a student designed app. 
 
                                 FOR CHILDREN:

Mandarin Chinese 
Chinese Made Easy Level 1 (Grades 1 through 3) 

The Mandarin Chinese course will be taught by Ms. Ding from 9:00am to 10:00am. The course will focus mostly on helping students develop their listening and speaking skills in Chinese. Rhymes, pictures, flash cards, games and real objects are used frequently in class to help students retain the language easily. They will learn language in various topics and settings including introducing yourself and others, numbers, identifying people, objects, animals, countries & nationality, sports, friends, food, etc.

Chinese Made Easy Level 2 (Grades 4 through 9)
The Mandarin Chinese course will be taught by Ms. Ding from 10:00am to 11:00am. The aim is to introduce students to the Chinese language and to various aspects of Chinese life and culture. Students will learn Chinese Phonics-Pinyin and basic vocabulary on specific topics, and practice listening, speaking, reading and writing at an introductory level through a variety of activities.
 
Yoga (Ages 5 – 9) 
These classes are taught by instructors of the Children's School of Yoga, the largest children's yoga program in the Hudson Valley. Having taught yoga to children for over 8 years, their program introduces children to yoga in fun age-appropriate ways. We include yoga poses, breathing and relaxation techniques, yoga games and chants, and yoga skills that can be integrated into a child's home and school life daily. The curriculum is theme-orientated, allowing teachers to share hundreds of yoga poses and breathing and relaxation techniques throughout the school year based on a theme. Each theme incorporates many different styles of yoga as well as snippets of anatomy, geography, language skills, science and math facts. Instructors are trained exclusively in children's yoga and work with children of all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities as well as special needs and high risk youth. Mats and yoga props will be provided.(If your child has their own mat, they are welcome to bring it to use). Children should dress comfortably and have water to drink with them. Maximum class size is 15 children.

PreK Arts and Play (Ages 3 - 5)
Children will join Mr. Koscuiszka for age appropriate activities, including dramatic play, art projects, and cooking. Students will have the opportunity to play, read, explore, and join Mr. Koscuiszka for cool projects involving literacy, science, and the arts.
